-Paul not particularly right K. wrote in part with my comments inserted:

The reality of what a 930 is, is finally hitting me. Such a
significant car, last of a breed, pure, raw, visceral. None of the newer
P's I've
driven feel / smell / go the way this thing does. I'm sure a 996tt
would knock the pants off it - who cares. 996s are like driving
Germanobuicks 8-).

I'm getting accustomed to the power band. Lag / 4spd aside... it's
REALLY not that bad once you acclimate.

Mark - I resemble that. Power-wise your 930 is like an on/off switch, the
993tt is more like a rheostat and does not remind me of a Buick

Shifter has the "long throw" shifter option heh heh heh, it's like rowing a
canoe! Kidding
aside, the gate makes for easy selection, positive engagement, just
real long throws which you need to be deliberate with as the synchros feel
old school.

Mark - Yes the key with a Porsche transmission is to give it bit of time
between shifting gears. It is not a American tranny where you just jam and hope
you don't break anything. I hear P-car trannys are not cheap to fix, that
for me is a not been there nor done that.

SPORT SEATS FOR THE WIN!

Mark - enjoy now since as you age you may grow sideways. They used to be
comfortable for me but not now

Really nothing like the sound of a 911 door unlatching / latching, for some
bizarre reason.
Such a proper greeting for what you are about / just have embarked upon.

Mark - I hate to let this out but that sound the door makes is due in large
part to the large tar pad glued inside the door. I like that sound - the
993tt makes its too
doubt I'll do too much to it for awhile at least. Likely lower it down to
Euro stance,
maybe tint the windows lightly. Always liked orange rear indicators, maybe
some day.

Mark - skip the tint. Instead join PCA, get some track and autocross
experience in it and come to the parade in 08 - I believe its in Charlotte the week
before the 4th of July.

Here's some pics

Mark - Looking great. Enjoy - and remember if your driving on sticky tires
their traction goes away when the temperature dips below 40 degrees F. You
don't want to slide your toy into a wall.

Wow Mark... I think I recalled your having a 993 but not knew it was a
993tt. _WOW_. About my ideal / fave Porsche. Sucks (not for you) that their
values are ridiculous right now. And, I said the ___996tt's___ are
Germanobuicks - *NOT* 993 8-).

Time for some sitmeups out there in Chicago??? The day I don't fit into
Sport Seats is the day I give up my 4-cookie and bag 'o cheesy poof a day diet!
Heh heh heh...

Now Mark, I said "tint"... which is entirely different than the ghetto
version of "tints-yo". I've tinted all my cars, it sets them off quite nicely.
You should see the GT3RS that was recently tinted - it's a literal jaw
dropping effect. Coupled with the black gut and all the black trim on this car,
it'll look sharp... menacing. 35% should do it, maybe with a 20% rear.

I joined PCA last year when I GT3'd Lime Rock Park in a PCA DE. Dozens and
dozens and dozens of autox's / winterx's later, I've been on sabbatical for
while. Gawd bless wifey, one of the first things she suggested (not asked)
was "you should do some of those things with it next year". Heh, I knew what
she meant, and was floored. Hopefully come spring. For now, as always, the
world is my road cHOORse heh heh (not to mention my personal proving ground
here in Paulland). No worries - I don't intend to make it go bendy smashy
crunchy any time - not an option! I'm having trouble envisioning running an
autox in this thing - 1st gear entire course trying to keep it in boost? Be
interesting certainly, and I'll likely give it a whirl at least a coupla times
come spring.

Tx for the thoughts. Love to see some pics of that 993tt, please send me
some!

-Paul reallyreally not right K.

OK Paul,

What JNR? If I dorked out that's par for the course.

I must have read too fast confusing the 996 and 993. I totally agree the
996 does not look like a Porsche. It may ride well but to me it looks like
something from Nissan. Now the 997 looks proper, almost as good as a 993. I
drove a friend's 05 997 and it was quite impressive but nothing like the 911s
of old, namely light-weight and nimble. The 993tt is not light-weight nor
nimble but it sounds right and uses no anti-freeze! I don't think the old style
911 would sell well in this day and age. Even I would not drive one day to
day - I'd want the creature comforts the new cars have. FWIW, the best car P
has ever built is the Boxster. Try an S, its fun. I have a first-year 97
and it was my daily driver for 5 years until I bought a 95.5 S6 in 2002.

Autocross-wise I think you'll have a fair amount of lag and you'll have to
watch out for the body-work or you'll be clipping a lot of cones with your
inside rear tire. Best advise I can give is to make sure your classed correctly
and, yes, you'll be in first gear for the whole course.

Since you brought up wives, here is my story. My wife was pissed that 11
years ago I sold my 1984 white/can can red Carrera (coupe spoilers and full
sport package). I bought a Boxster and drove it daily but she still missed it.
For the past 2 years I have been looking, though not diligently, for a 98
C2S but have been unsuccessful. Needless to say, one day I scanned ebay and
found this white turbo. She looked over my shoulder and said that although its
not can can red, cashmere will do. So if you don't buy it, when you're
dead the first thing I'm going to buy is a 911 so you can either enjoy it with
me or know I'll have one later. I bought it.

Situps????? no way, the only exercise I'm doing is with my right arm -
Maker's Mark & water.

For the Audi content I have attached a picture of the 95.5S6 and the 993tt
parked in my driveway.

Take care,
