I have the 9-5 Aero and it is generally a wonderful car.
The fuel economy is fantastic if you drive it carefully but it goes like
a bat out of hell........in a straight line in the dry !!!!!
Seriously, find a car that can out accelerate you from a roll through
toll booth in 2nd :-)
Problem area's are typical euro issues.
DI cassette does fail, sometimes with warning. Latest replacements are
better but that poor thing does all the hard work and lives in a hell hole.
HVAC has a 10 cent plastic link that fails. Factory fix is couple grand,
after market has metal replacement piece for $150.
LCD displays slowly loose segments, can be repaired yourself or send to
a repair shop.
Manual gearbox is shit to use, but does not go wrong, auto is actually a
great box (Asian) and takes the strain no problem. It has an old world
feel, quick shifts and no slipping around the gears.
Engine breather system can block, 5 updates and they finally got it
right. This can cause oil leaks that will stop again if the breather is
sorted quick. Sludge has been known but only badly maintained examples.
BTW, almost everything is easy to reach and work on, clean layout.
Have to say though, practical choice for the family is the Honda or
Toyota van.
