The system just temporarily holds hydrocarbons in the canister, then
pulls them
back out and burns them in the engine, so I doubt it is a faulty
canister unless
it is damaged.
Remove the airbox and inspect the valve, item 18 in your
illustration. The
mystery fumes could be a broken valve. I repaired mine with JB
weld. If
you are saying the local Audi shop pressure tested the system
illustrated,
then they might as well pressure test your wallet. Hmmm....., I
guess they did.
:-) It captures fumes from the tank as well as the engine so
functionally
testing the entire system installed is difficult.
