funny that i forgot to mention this.  my friend loaned me his '93 911 RS america for a month.  the interior is rude and crude, straight out of the 70's, and it's an ergonomic disaster.  the car has big fat wheels, coilovers, and exhaust mods that somehow left out the mufflers.  it's not much fun to drive just toddling around town.  but when you get some running room and get the engine over 5000 rpm, it's an amazing experience.

plus the car is a chick magnet.

Carrera's got G50 in '87, 930s not until '89.  I had "forgotten" this
until I went to get it last night and was all D'OH!  But D'OH was
replaced with WHOO HOOO!  when I spied the sport seats.
 
I'll get you some good shots over the weakend Taka - I have a few of
exactly what you said - as well as driving impressions (including 4spd
thoughts).  A man who loves his P cars there certainly!

    G50 5-speed went into the 930 in 1989- the last and the very
best of the 930s.
    
    Ruf did do a 5-speed conversion for quite some time before that,
though.
    
    Porsche at the time felt that the 5-speed was marginal for the
power output of the 930 (they later revised that opinion) and also that
the powerband of the 930 didn't require more than the 4-speed. Having
had my doors blown off by several 930s, I don't think it's all that
 much
of a hardship to have only a 4-speed when you have that kind of power
 to
play with- remember, 930s don't weigh all that much compared to 2008
cars. 
    
    You don't really have to downshift a 930 at highway speeds to
blow someone's doors off- you do in a 965 which has essentially the
 same
engine, down to the CIS.
