[s-cars] ticking- should i worry?

Just for grins pop the cam cover and have a look at the tops of the valves &
valve spring retainers. Years back I had had a ticking sound for a while
and figured it was time for lifters. I went to do that job & was shocked
(shocked) to find that one of the valve keepers had gone missing and it's
brother was split and ready to do the same - just a rev or few thousand or
so before that valve was free to move about the inside of the engine... I
was amazed it held.

Of course that meant I'd saved so much money & time by not having to rebuild
the motor I could proceed directly down the slippery slope - turbos
intercoolers injectors fuel pumps exhaust 7A cam chips yadda yadda yadda
you've heard all before from a long list of victims - been the ruin, of many
a poor boy, down in S-car go... My name is Phil, and it's been a really
really long time since I've worked on that car.

That said, hopefully you'll just have to add oil to make your ticking sound
go away.
