How does one change the filter without changing the oil? Seems like quite
the messy proposition and with M-1 ~ $23 for 5 qts at wally world why skimp.
Unless of course you drive a bazillion miles a year.

how is it that the newer cars can go 15k-20k miles without an oil change or
filter change, and still make it to 150k+ miles? by now, there are a lot of
them with 100k+ miles and no engine problems.

maybe i'll let the oil go to 10k miles, and change the filter at 5k.

With oil analysis, you can determine how long you should be keeping the oil
in your engine before changing it- however, you do need to change the filter
regularly.

Some synthetics can go 15k w/o breakdown, but you still need to change the
filter every 5k miles.
