[s-cars] OEM HID headlights

Mark;
If it's the bulb/igniter that is failing on your OEM HID, the Hong Kong
lights may not be much help. The capsules with those lights likely won't fit
your mounts (they are typically designed mount to non-HID bulb holders like
H1, 9006, etc. as HID retrofits). If your ballast is failing, you might get
lucky and be able to fab up one of the Hong Kong ballasts to work, depending
on whether they have an integrated igniter or a separate igniter. I've been
down the Hong Kong route and when those components fail, you are in the same
boat - the guy that sold them to you is no longer in business and you have
to try to hunt down compatible components, but the upside is they don't cost
$600!
If you are planning to swap in H1 projectors to use the Hong Kong kit, you
might as well swap in TT HID projectors. You can pick up broken TT lights on
eBay for $100 per (I just bought one for spare parts for $75) and the
capsules, igniters, and ballasts are all available separately from the
dealer if replacements are required. I've retrofitted the TT HID projectors
into my OEM DOT S6 lights with great results.
Good luck!

Sean,
Good catch. Yes, the lights came out of an S6+. I'm not sure if it was
the
scotch or the beer that caused that one.
What I meant on the Hong Kong lights is if they are decent I may go that
route rather than trying to find the overpriced Hella replacement parts.
Even
if they are only one half decent I may buy a set and using my S6+ lights I
may
take parts from each and put together one good setup. The other idea that
is somewhat fueling this is that the S6+ lights are D1s and although they
are
HIDs the current state of the art lights being used are D2Ss. The D2Ss are
brighter than D1s but the lens looks larger so it might not fit in the S6+
reflector housing. One feature of the S6+ lights I do like are the high
beams
- they are pencil beams, much more so than the euro H1s I used to have. My
email was intended to see if anyone out there had bought lights from this
guy.
BTW, for the record the replacement part numbers for the D1 Hella stuff is
left side 4A0 941 471 and for the right side 4A0 941 472.
Thanks,

RS2 headlights? Do you mean S6+ headlights?
If you do have the OEM S6+ lights, then buying something from Hong Kong
will
likely not work. On the S6+ lights, the bulb and ignitor are integrated,
with the ballast wired separelty. They are made by Hella, but is
propriatary
and not avalbale in the aftermarket.
