Nathan,
You have too much free time on your hands. Very industrious of you "das
motor" head.

I had a misfire due to a bad #3 coil, so I bought the coil ($149.85) from
Scott Mockry after using his advice to diagnose said misfire
http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/trouble_shooting/S4_Ignition.htm . This is
the 4th time I've had a misfire since 89K miles when I bought the car in
2000. First 2 times was a bad Power Output Stage (POS/ignition control
module), last 2 times #4 coil & now #3 coil. I had 204,500 miles so I put
in 5 new Bosch F5DPOR plugs ($13.75 ea.) in while I was at it. To install
the new coil we (my high school buddy, Curtis of CMarr Automotive helped me)
cut the wire under the coil cover & soldered the wire & shrink-wrapped it
using a mini-butane torch (creme brulee anyone?). Since the OEM coil lasted
204,500 miles I'd rather stay with the OEM set-up rather than mess with
cheaper $35/piece coils from a 1.8T & have to run without the coil cover &
not know how long the coils will last?

I also got the notice in the mail that my license plate was expiring in May
& that I needed an emission test so I figured why not get the fuel injectors
with 204,722 miles ultra-sonically cleaned. Eliot Lim recommended the BG
vacuum system carbon clean service ($279)
http://www.bgprod.com/products/fuelair.html at the local dealer, University
Audi, but I declined since it left the injectors on the car, which meant the
old deteriorating seals & o-rings would be still be deteriorating on the car
(see pictures). So I began my investigation on where to get my injectors
cleaned. I located 2 local firms: http://www.docinjector.com/
http://www.witchhunter.com/index.php4 I went with Doctor Injector in
Renton on advice of CMarr Automotive (710 S. Jackson, Seattle, WA
206-405-4402) that used them & was charged $23 ea. (supposedly wholesale
price, told him I was from the Audi Club & a referral from CMarr). I picked
Dr. Injector because I could have my plugs back the same day & watch the
process. Witchhunter wanted $18 for the service ($5 cheaper) but would need
the plugs for 2-3 days & I couldn't watch the process. Some firms just swap
out the plugs with already cleaned ones they have on stock.

The manager, Art Pipkin, of Dr. Injector Renton was very friendly and a
go-kart racer labeled each injector because I gave him the order they came
out of the engine. When I pulled out #5 injector the pintle cap broke off
fortunately it didn't fall in the chamber (see picture). There are 4 holes
under the pintle caps and during the spray test I could see that some were
clogged with only 2 holes functioning (Hmmm, I wonder what that does for my
gas mileage & hp with expensive cost of gas?). Art said Techron & other
cleaners only maintain an already clean injector & the only way to remove
the hard deposits is via ultra-sonic cleaning. Here's the slide show:

Car runs really smooth now. While testing I got a speeding ticket 57 in a
40mph on HWY 99 North just after the Aurora Bridge. Passed emissions & paid
my $54 for license renewal ($3 filing fee, $13 RTA Tax, $38 Gross Weight Fee
for commercial/truck plates). Some may ask why not go RS2 turbo &
injectors...well I have a '05 Ducati M1000s for speed & it gets 45mpg & is
more fun on the track.
