I agree you're doing yourself a disservice ruling out BMW. Why not consider an E46 M3, or an E39 M5? Both fast and cheap with great roadfeel.
Also I just got out of a Brabus T12, which was a 2003 Mercedes CL600 modified to 570HP, and drove a RennTech CL600 with 625HP. If you don't want anyone passing you, these cars are the ticket, and nice looking and nicely finished. And super cheap these days based on their MSRP of $139K a few years ago.
The RennTech car was so fast, when I went to pass someone I had to steer out around them BEFORE hitting the gas, or I might have crashed into the back of them! I think that RennTech car was faster from 80-140 than my S8 is from 0-60!! Something to consider.
Regards,
Bruce

I know you don't like the BMW's but a M Coupe is a bad-ass car. Unique,
fast and torquey...
Man, that would be on my list....
