[s-cars] Who knows oil?

Not me actually, so you can stop here if you like. What I do know is
that the
local Walmart still sells the Mobil 1 5W40 truck oil in 5qt
containers for $23+
(airline notation for plus tax, baggage fee, meals, etc). The
Pennzoil synthetic
is even cheaper - All this despite the run-up in crude prices.

So, find these places and store some oil and Mann filters for changes
for the next
year or so and you won't have the dilemma when you need fresh oil.

The AAN doesn't benefit much from the newer formulations for energy
efficiency,
in fact, they sacrifice some engine longevity for better fuel
mileage. I would
lean toward protection for this road trip rather than 1 or 2 mpg.

Once we get away from the 90 to 100 F temperatures, the lower
viscosity oils
can have some benefit. Just make sure they contain the energy
efficient rating
on the can since these have some thin film lubricating properties you
want.
The owners manual chart for oil selection is still valid but gives no
advice for
brands either.

Tom I'm not making the road trip this year, headed west instead.
I was hoping
to make //s-fest west but they cancelled festivities this year. Make
sure your
wingman protects your six.
