[s-cars] Driveshaft R&R writeup

There has been something lost on this list about changing this center
support. It has always required splitting the bracket, installing
the BMW bearing and welding
the bracket back together. It's not really that messy since the
bracket just clamps the bearing in place. <http://elektro.cmhnet.org/
~audi/transmission/ > has the
Jimmy Pribble original write-up about this problem. (it also clearly
shows the bolt that gives so many problems) There were subsequent
descriptions and photos
of exactly what is required, but if you look at the bracket, it is
obvious what is needed. Just saw the bracket ring to R&R the bearing
and weld back together.
Or, you could just go to 034 and buy the replacement already
fabricated. All this doesn't make the job any easier, and as Wayne
decided, if the driveshaft needs
both ends and the center repaired, a refurbished driveshaft may be
the best choice. It sure does help to know what is needed before
starting the job, since many
only needed the front C/V lubricated or replaced.
