Aaron,
This will be a little late for sourcing parts for this weekend. :-)
That <http://www.genuineaudiparts.com/> is about the best I have
found for dealer parts and many times they are competitive with
aftermarket parts. Unlike Wiley,
I can't get any close price match from my dealer so they are not even
close even with the 10% audi club discount and the shipping is
usually no more than the tax
would be. The down side is you can't use the online catalog on the
web site with any confidence since it is full of incorrect parts and
incorrect prices. If you can
enter with a part number, you can do ok. The dealer parts usually
take some time regardless of the source since the local dealer won't
stock them either, but Miramar Audi usually gets things from the LA
warehouse in time to ship the next day.
<http://www.sjmautotechnik.com/ > is a place we want to keep around
and if you need some immediate advice on a part, Scott Mockry will
give you all the help you
need to get the correct part. Everyone on this list has benefitted
from his diagnostic help, so use his parts business too.
<http://www.force5auto.com/> will have more than you might expect -
not just the best source of used parts
<http://www.autohausaz.com/index.html> has some of the best prices
around, knowledgeable people, good service, and free shipping, but
are a long 5 days from us
for ground shipping. I use them a lot if I have the time and use
that free shipping for bulky items and liquids.
<http://www.worldimpex.com/> can be hard to beat on fluids and
lubricants even with shipping costs. They will find about anything
also, and some have gotten european parts from them.
<http://www.fap99.com/> has good prices also. He is an s-car guy
also - goes to //SFest.
<http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/> might have your best prices on
cylinders right now with a 15% off sale until labor day with free
shipping on $100 using coupon LABORDAYALERT. You may have to call to
get the discount, it would not do it online for me. Otherwise, I
don't do much business with them or the two other web sites they
operate.
<http://www.bimmerspecialist.com/usa/parts/index/audi> has good
prices and carries some items others don't.
<http://www.germanautoparts.com/> has always been a favorite for a
range of stuff.
<http://www.qualityimportparts.com/> has competitive prices on many
parts
<http://www.bimmerparts.com/> good for some things
The FAQ section at audiworld S4/6 forum has a listing of favorite
shopping sites. You need to shop around some because no one place
has the best price on all items,
and sometimes you can't wait on the free ground shipping. SJM
deserves some play as well when he is close in price.
Looking at the slave cylinders, all the castings look very similar so
I can't believe there is much difference and I have considered FTE
the OEM supplier. I'm not sure that
Sachs supplied any when the car was built. The bolt you can get at
ACE hardware or reuse it if it is not worn. The issue is if the
cylinder is a little loose the bracket can
wear on the bolt. It is not a tensile strength issue where you
torque the bolt too tight. Just try to tighten it too much in that
awkward place. Besides, you can get a quality bolt of the same
strength rating at ACE - just pay attention to the size, amount of
threaded portion and thread pitch.
