[s-cars] Snow tire size debate - 15" vs 16"

Chris,
Except if you have huge potholes in your area, the wheels diameter doesn't
make a difference in snow. What really matters is the wheels (and tires)
width. The stock 225 width sucks with the weight of the urS, 205 is OK,
185/195 rolls. If you can fit 205 or 195 on your 16" mags, go for it. IME,
it takes really huge potholes (like in Quebec) to bend mags with 50 profile
tires.
As other listers said, the 16" will also provide better dry handling. Snow
tires with stiff sidewalls are kind of rare so the 50 profile will help.
BTW, if you don't like the steel wheels look, used 15" or 16" Audi mags go
for 200$ or less (bought mines for 100$). So, if your 16" cannot take 205 or
less, do yourself a favour, buy a set of 7" width used Audi mags, preferably
16".
Note that, living in Quebec, where snow and ice is not exactly occasional,
I'm leaning toward best performance on snow/ice (with the best dry handling
as long as it doesn't compromise snow/ice handling). YMMV.
BTW, the Nokian RSi Lee's offering are the best snow/ice tires with very
decent dry handling I've ever drove with.
Vincent still waiting for snow, or ice, or whatever slippery F

Gentz,
I find myself with too many options!
I have my old beat up steel 15" wheels I can use for my snows, OR
a set of 16" 5 spoke wheels which are uber nicer in appearance.
Trying to decide whether I should go with 15" or 16" snow tires, any
thoughts?
Regards
Chris
