I don't think any rotor is 30mm thick... Even vented ones.

30 is the width of the friction surface in millimetres.  I'm not sure 
what to make of your caliper being too small.  Maybe suggest a test fit 
just to see what's up.  As for the calipers...they're from a 92-95 
928GTS?  I'm not sure what the older S4 and stuff had for brakes.

I'm using plain rotors and no problems stopping my car.  I think it's 
more about the pad for general purposes.  <insert usual shameless Ferodo 
plug here>
