[s-cars] PS hose needed

this is probably a good time to mention that the trickiest part of the job is installing the banjo at the steering rack, with crush washers on both sides of the banjo, and getting the banjo bolt threaded, without dropping anything. you have to do it one-handed because there's not much room, and it'd be a real pain to look for a crush washer if you dropped it back there. the crush washers aren't that expensive, so you may want to have one or two extras in case you do drop one.

i used permatex gasket adhesive to stick the crush washers to the banjo, and didn't have too much trouble getting the bolt threaded.

I did exactly as Teddy did since he had already been there before and it
worked out great for me. You won't be likely to find a better price than
Carson will give you. Also, the bolt going into the power steering pump can
become VERY tight after 13+ years. I had to use a big old pipe slid over a
long wrnech to break it loose. Be careful not to round it off.

that hose is not too difficult to replace, if you have a ratcheting
combination wrench. otherwise, it'd be a pain to turn the banjo bolt on the
steering rack because of the limited clearance. i had a shorty ratcheting
wrench, which made the job a snap.

i was told that rebuilding the hose has limited success, and people often
get groaning sounds afterwards. i decided i didn't want to do the job more
than once, and bought it from riverside audi.

Carson Heter - RIVERSIDE AUDI <cheter at riversideaudi.com>

power steering pump to steering rack hose, part 4A1 422 893 Q. cost me $200
plus shipping. don't forget to get some pentosin CHF11 and the seals for
the banjos at both ends.

I recommend you plug the part number in the catalog page and order
from that
rather than using the online catalog provided. It combines A6/S6
parts even
where they are not common with resulting errors in parts and prices.
They
verify part #'s in the order, but it's better to have it correct to
start. You must order
online to get the web price. If you call, and use their parts
experience and ETKA,
you pay the dealer price.
