I believe you mean the Optima battery, Steve. I agree with your point
that the gel cell battery can be turned on it's
side and avoid the issue of height. I recommend you keep an eye on
the Optima installation, Jerry. The battery is
too tall and the springs will rub on whatever insulator you use, and
may eventually wear through. Optima does not
make a type 41 either, so the battery must be turned around. My
positive cable would not reach the post on the
Optima because it is centered rather than on the corner. I would have
had to extend both cables to lay the battery
down, and devise a hold-down to pass tech inspection.
The Odyssey battery is the one on the Humvee--armored for that
application--and is a smaller overall case. I also
opted for metric screw fasteners instead of posts, which further
reduced the height. They are supposed to be a
very long lasting battery so I wanted to give it a try despite its
high price.
I like Sears personnel and corporate policies, so I support them as a
retailer. But, much of the battery is marketing,
not substance, and the international battery is severely overpriced
just to get the correct form factor for the vehicle.
Any long warranty they provide is negated by the high cost of the
battery when you have the prorate the replacement.
Sam's or Costco can provide the correct battery at 1/4 the price.
