[s-cars] Windshield Replacement Glass Brand?

Calvin,

My car was a victim of high school graduation celebrations. When I
started looking, I found the same bottom line as Fred. I went OEM on
my 97S6. In Colorado we have huge problems with windshields pitting
and OEM seemed more resistant to pitting. I had heard that some of
the other brands didn't shed rocks and my original windshield had
shed some large rocks without even chipping. Talk about shedding
rocks. I could see where these delinquents tried throwing the first
rock (3 or 4 inch diameter) through the window and it bounced off
landing in my yard, so they went with a 8" diameter rock that was too
much for the OEM glass and dented the hood as it rolled off. The
body shop said a rash of vandalism happened every year after
graduation. Only in Farmington, NM do you find kids vandalizing cars
because they graduated from HS! Glad to be out of there.

Calvin;

When I replaced the windshield in my S4 I was very surprised to find
the OEM
glass from the dealer was cheaper than the aftermarket glass from the
glass
shops. Since the original windshield had given me 12 years of good
service
and shed countless stones, I went with the OEM glass.

Amazingly, the OEM glass I had installed shed a 4" boulder for the
current
owner. The rock fell off a truck, hit the hood and put a 8" long, 1"
deep
dent/gouge in the hood, and then bounced off the windshield, putting
a 3"
long gouge in the glass. She said she and her daughter were under the
dash
at that point - she saw the stone coming and thought it would come right
into the car.

Good glass!

Subject: [s-cars] Windshield Replacement Glass Brand?

After 16 years the glass in my '91 S4 has decided to crack. I have been
offered 4 different replacement options:
1. Sekurit - OEM - I am not sure this is the same price as the others
2. PPG - I have seen some good reviews
3. Pilkington - I have heard more negative than good, but am still
open-minded
4. Safelite - ???

Any info. on experience with these different brands as far as durability
after install would be appreciated. Since I got 16 years in Denver
out of
my first one I am a bit spoiled :) Also, if anybody knows of a good
shop
around Denver that would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
