Vell, I'm not going to demystify anything for you, Mike. Besides,
any VT
ee major should love to tackle this thing. :-)
I'm just awed by someone anal enough to pull the carpet out for a
cleaning.
I can hardly get anyone to pull their mats out for cleaning.
If you are going to this extent and expense (I assume you have priced
this
blue connector servo) then why not just pull the heater box and
change the
heater core and blower motor for PM. They are going to give trouble
some-
time anyway. Just get a new seal for the box to seal up the big hole
it fits in.
Now, everything is easy to access.
The flap servo that is behind the blower accessible under the hood
has an
A on the part # and is 1/2 the price of the central flap servo with
the blue plug
although there are reports they are identical inside and work in
either position
by changing the lever and plug.
Just concentrate on the symptoms to cure the problem, and use the
fault codes
to verify. The flap under the hood is known as the temperature
regulator and
controls the amount of heat going through the heater core. If you
can't regulate
the temperature, ie, you get heat even with a/c selected or not
enough heat,
change this one.
The blue plug flap servo motor in the tray is the central flap
motor and controls
air through the center vents. If you are getting heat from the
center vents instead
of the foot-well or don't get air from the center vents in a/c, this
is the culprit.
You can get the fault codes from the climate control head without the
VAG-COM
and check the current position of each flap as well. You need to
clear the codes
with the VAG-COM to check the current fault codes. If you can drive
a few miles
on the rumble strips at the edge of the pavement, the flap motors
will move to
the correct position corresponding to the c/c head setting. HTH
