There is definitely a car culture in da Islands. Oahu would not be my choice 
of Islands to live on but I did live there as a young boy many many years ago. 
I'd go with some kind of Avant for your wife and then some kind of 
convertible/roadster for you. Oahu is very dry and a vert would be ideal for running 
around in and the surfbard could be wedged in with the top down. Does your 
employer pay for your move/transport of cars?
