[s-cars] ATF fluid in the reservoir : What to do?

ECS and surely some others sell a reservoir pressurizer for
bleeding/flushing. It threads onto the top of the reservoir, so it's
application-specific. They're usually around $40-50. Use a syringe or
something to suck as much ATF as possible out of the top, attach the
pressurizer, pump up to 5psi or so, then open a bleeder. Keep the
system under pressure and replace with brake fluid periodically. The
tool makes it really easy.

You could also do a gravity bleed. That's one person and no special
tools, but it takes a while. Since you're looking at a complete flush
that's another thing to consider. Just open up all the bleeders, take
the cap off the reservoir, and add brake fluid as necessary.

On the shop issue, I say it's lawsuit time. It's not like the power
steering system where someone might install ATF as an honest mistake.
Only one kind of fluid ever goes in automotive brake systems and that's
brake fluid. Just in case I'm way off base, anybody of heard of a car
that used ATF for brake fluid? This is a shop that should be dragged
kicking and screaming out of business on general principle.

85 urQ too...damn...

-Cheers!

I am thinking of a lawsuit , for this problem and others. I'm just looking for some How To/BTDT for flushing/bleeding. I can just siphon most of the fluid out of the reservoir, but the details of flushing I'm not acquainted with. I've done some brake bleeding yrs. ago, ie., have some one pump the peddle up hard and then I turn the bolt/nipple at each wheel until all the Red Stuff is gone and no air bubbles. It has been the car for about 2months but has not been driven at all-- won't run. ... Stephen '85Urq
