[s-cars] Tires

Be careful with these. Always sort your tire rack reviews starting with
most miles driven. If you do that you will see numerous reports of the
tires cupping over time and creating horrible road noise. These were in my
final choices for my '01 A6 but I eliminated them after reading the high
mileage reviews. The cupping seems to have something to do with a soft
compound used in the middle of the tire, if I was reading the reviews
properly. You don't want to know how a tire is after 500 miles....almost
all of them will be great, it's after 20k or so that separates the good ones
from the bad ones.

Have you guys checked out the Avon M-500's or M-550's? They're on
close-out at Tire Rack, very reasonably priced and have excellent reviews.
No personal experience here...

I just bought 225/50ZR16 Eagle F1s in December. Not enough warm, dry miles
to indicate summer time grip, but they are very acceptable in snow.

One design feature I really like is the sidewall bead area. It stands proud
of the wheel lip enough to prevent minor curb rash. Not that I
intentionally parallel park by feel...

They replaced the Dunlop SP Sports which are very soft and sticky in the
summer, but worthless in the winter.
