Man, how loud is loud?

My garage is a lot smaller and it's not loud at all- anyway, I wear ear
protection when using any tools that make that much noise (like an impact
wrench).

Fully drywalled garages aren't that loud. Doing anything beyond that is
truly subject to what you plan on actually doing in the garage. If you can
afford it, acoustic tile on the ceiling will help a lot. You would need to
put carpet or some sort of soft material on the floor to do much more, which
is really unrealistic in a garage.
