Well don't forget that your OE coil thats bad did likely serve well for 
something like 12 years. Really thats not too bad, and if you think of the 
cost over it's life cycle its not too expensive either ;-). As everybody is 
aware the older 1.8t coils are/were exceptionally un-reliable, and while the 
newer ones are definately better they still haven't had enough time to truly 
prove themselves for long-term use. You are likely to to pay twice as much 
money for the "correct" coil for the car, but theres a good chance that it 
will last twice as long unless they finally did get the 1.8t coils perfect 
this time arround.

I bet if you were to somehow vent the factory coil cover the stock coils 
would last even longer then the 12-16 years that most have lasted!

JMHO of course, others may vary.
