Hi guys,

I've been reading the archives for months, subscribed and have been
lurking since December. I hate php boards, and you guys seem more human
and conversational than the rest of the communities I've been watching.
I'm a "carbs and points" guy from way back; MGBs, early Broncos, etc.,
tho I got my first Audi, a well-used Fox, in 1985. And then I went
through a slew of gen one Golfs that got GTI engines and Audi 5 speeds
-- I preferred having OD to having 5 gear ratios crammed in below 1:1.
When the Bronco crowd started installing SEFI 5.0s and dealing with EDIS
headaches, I let them lap me and felt content to try a Pertronix under
the cap, and hang out at the back of the pack. Ancient history.

I backed into a deal on a cheap SPG two years ago and got hooked on
turbo. But I wanted a less conspicuous, family-size car. Q-ship is
more my style at this point in life. I recently became aware of the
trend towards truly affordable C4 prices and started shopping for a UrS
and bought a really nice tornado red/anthracite 95.0 sedan in December.
I'm enjoying the car a lot. When this intermittent stalling thread
started, I noticed what at first I thought was a chunk missing from a
front snow tire. It's pretty square wave in nature and only happens
under acceleration. It does seem to increase in frequency with engine
RPM. This is my first 5 cyl. car so it doesn't feel like any miss or
single dead spark I've experienced in the past. It starts and idles
fine and does not stall.

Where do I start my diagnosis? How do I check codes w/o a VAG scan
tool? Has anyone here had success with the digital Bentley (either on
disc or the web version) on a Mac? The website does not work for me
with Firefox or Safari so I'm afraid to waste my money on the disc.

Is there a proper ritual or offering I haven't found in the archives for
appeasing the Audi gods? Is there anyone here who lives near me and
wants to be a mentor to an eager, enthusiastic student?
