Unfortunately BTDT WRT latch cable coming off.  (note to self:  if door
latch frozen and opened via inside handle NEVER push the inside latch back
into position as this will dislodge latch cable:(
(note to self II: never disassemble door latch mechanism from door since
after an hour or two or three, you realize allz it needed was a good lube.)
Which can be done by spraying the piss out of it from the outside with Kroil
Penephite  http://www.kanolabs.com/ which is also the only cure for squeaky
door hinges that I know of.
The good news is that, as impossible as it sounds and looks, the latch cable
CAN be reconnected via closing your eyes, adding a lot of visualization,
shrinking your fingers and pray that Bill Perron will speak with the audi
godz on your behalf.  IIRC some needle noses of various shapes and sizes may
be helpful. When you do get it back on, you will wonder how in tarnation you
did it.
