i changed the CPS when i did the timing belt last year, and i recall the cam bolt took the largest metric socket i had on hand, which is a 24mm.
are you sure the splice is behind the cam sprocket? my replacement CPS, which i bought through the group buy, had long leads, and i was able to place the splice pretty far away. it's somewhere under the black plastic fuel rail cover, if memory serves.

Subject: [s-cars] Cam sprocket removal
In my quest to fix the no-start issue on my 92, I was going to try to
check the splice job done by the PO's mechanic on the CPS. In order to
get to the wiring, the cam sprocket has to come off, and I'm wondering
what size the bolt is since I don't have one big enough to tell, and no
Bentley to check. Surely somebody here knows. The AW forums mention
23mm, but Cody says he doesn't think it's a 23..so, 22mm, 24mm perhaps?
The CPS was replaced just a few weeks before I bought the car (a year
ago last Nov) so I have my doubts as to it being the reason for my
non-start unless it's a bad splice job or cold solder, but the intermittent
no-start/start leads me to believe it's not a fuel pump issue since
when it runs, it runs out well to full boost and doesn't seem to stumble
as if it's not getting enough fuel. Still not getting a code for it
though.
