I'm guessing a bad connection. Another option that you don't want to hear 
though is that it could have been a coindicence. I bet you didn't try to 
start it directly before working on it today, right?

Oh and to hold the cam still while loosening the bolt leave the car in 1st 
gear with the parking brake set firmly and don't let the t-belt tension off 
until after you break the cam bolt loose.
