[s-cars] fuel pump retaining clips

Any tips on how to spread them apart far enough to get the pump out with it still in the tank?  I don't have long skinny fingers, but they're not short stubby ones either.  The rear one seems to be blocked by the wire connections to the point that I can't hardly get my finger back there to push it back.   I've been fighting this thing now for 3 hours trying to get the pump out but it won't budge.  I'm almost willing to try getting the entire basket out, even without the special tool.
