Can't agree with the other post. I'm on my 2nd B5 S4 avant and I've had
two B5 A4's. The control arms are wear items and do go bad. However,
you can buy them all together now as a kit, so the price has come down
significantly. If the car has been chipped, the stock K03's are
overdriven and will blow at some point. Some people get 50k out of
them, others are running on stock turbos at 120k+.
Replacing the turbos is a big job, the motor needs to come out.
However, you can replace everything with parts from the RS4, so you get
factory fit and finish.
The center displays tend to go bad, but a company in Germany has started
selling just that bit, so you no longer need to replace the entire cluster.
It's an interference engine, if the timing belt hasn't been done yet and
the car has 75k+ miles, it needs to be done.
Basically try to find one that's been well taken care of and it'll take
care of you. I've had no reliability issues with either of mine.
I live in Denver, if you want to check out my car or talk, drop me an email.
