[s-cars] potential euro sport spring group buy / [200 20v List] favorite - strut/shock/spring combo?

Mike, as far as I know North America got only two types of OEM springs:
The OEM spec 92 springs (also available in some carry over 93's as Audi
likes to use up spares while they transition years) and the Rancho
springs from 93 to 97.
According to ETKA;
4A0 411 105 R - front coil spring for vehicles with sport-type running
gear, 1 silver 2 violet euro-spec A/C manual gearbox AAN, S6 Plus
4A5 511 115 AG - rear coil spring for vehicles with sport-type running
gear, 1 yellow, 3 blue euro-spec AAN and USA 1992, S6 Plus
Effectively the rear spring was common to the US-spec 1992, while the
front was shared by the S6 plus and the euro-spec S6.
Cheers, /Jamu.

Jamu: I googled on one of your part numbers (4A0 411 105R) and found an
old Audifans post referencing Audi microfiche data via Ned Ritchie.
He says the 4A0 411 105R spring is the second of 3 springs they built
S6's with. Those would be Rancho springs, right?
Some spring rates are listed too.
Cross posting to 200Q20V, since they're talking about springs and spring
rates too.

It's good to know definitely that the rear height of the TQW doesn't
change
when those S4/S6 springs are installed.
A couple of additional points on spring rate differences.
1. The '91 20v uses stiffer springs, but certainly no stiffer than what
went
on the S4 or S6s. According to the folks at H&R (I checked on this a
few
months ago), the standard rear spring rate for the '91 200Q (non-wagon)
is
145ppi. For the S4 and S6, it's 225-230ppi. Frankly, I'm skeptical
about
the accuracy of this.
2. According to Ned Ritchie, who kindly emailed me info on this when I
put
'92 S4 struts on the front of my '91 200QW, there are differences in
spring
rates between '92 and '96. Basically, they went from what Audi called a
'sports' spring in '92 and early '93, up to VIN # WAUHP54APN019849, and
these springs (either front or rear) had 3 blue and 1 yellow stripe.
Part #
4A0 411 105J
Then, after complaints of too harsh a ride from S4 owners, they softened
the
spring rate a bit and went to one with 2 blue and 1 yellow stripe and
that
Part # is 4A0 411 105H.
Then, for the last S4s and early S6s, they went to a spring with silver
and
violet stripes, Part # 4A0 411 105Q, then 4A0 411 105R, and finally 4A0
411
105S.
Ned got this from some fiche he had. The dealers apparently do NOT have
this info, and to them, it's one size fits all. So if you order springs
for
these cars, there's only one type you'll get (unless one of these other
part
#s is still available).
I called Blau to ask which springs they used, and they said they'd get
back
to me, but they didn't. I guess that since I already committed to the
harsher springs (they're fine), I figured I should match them with what
the
factory produced for those cars.

As I recall and I did look this up when I received mine several
years
ago, the paint codes on the euro springs and the 92 springs are
the
same.

See Alex's site: http://www.euro-audi-parts.com/ but no p/n's
listed.
The closest option of finding used would be 92 springs, fairly
close in
spring rate, same height.

That's great news. The metal on metal camber plates are 50% of
what I
don't like about the current setup.
Are we talking about the springs that were OE in the Euro-spec
V8 C4 S4?
Are there other cars that used the same springs?
Anybody got p/n's?
I want to know my chances of finding them used before
considering the
GB.
This ain't gonna be cheap. Maybe I should just take out the
camber
plates and buy more tires.
