Dave:  I agree with Tom Green. It is very likely the POS, based on your symptoms.  But a check of the
 ground at the back of the cam cover and the firewall end of the intake manifold would be prudent.

Note that the brown Hitachi "351" V6 POS will work in a pinch and can be scrounged at a wreckers.
