Maybe it is in there to help distribute splashed oil to the cam chain, I
dunno, but I not going to replace it.  I'm glad it didn't decide to
disintegrate while in the cover and into the motor...

Hmmm, I don't see a baffle under the oil cap of my '95 S6 Avant so either it
never came on this particular car or it's looooong gone.

Take your pick, but I'd guess that if you are careful when changing the oil
and are not throwing debris into the engine, you won't miss this baffle.
Others may disagree.
