Fellow S-heads,
I MacGyvered a drivers seat armrest delete and thought I’d share in
case anyone else was considering the same. The plastic hinge on my
armrest had broken, and thus was making too much noise, so much that
I could not here my annoying squeak from the rear avant hatch that
has been with me for years.
Admittedly, this may not be the perfect fix for everyone, the part is
not german nor is it metric, but so far so good.
Parts I used:
CBK 3000 Clamping Knob
1-3/4" Diameter
5/16 - 18 Thread
1-1/2" Long Stud (you will trim off 3/8" of threaded stud to work
with OEM Spacer)
If you try mcmaster carr's website www.mcmaster.com, use these
keywords in your search and you will get the idea:
clamping knob / Mounting Type / Knob Type / Round Knob Style
The part number is 6479K38 (but this is for the imperial version)
Please note that I didn't take the time to wait for a shipped version
from them, I just used what I found at my local hardware store, and
this McMaster Carr item seems to be close to what I found locally.
McMaster Carr has metric versions, I didn't look to hard, which
would likely be a better fit of course.
