I agree. The journal bearings (the mains and con rod) of the C4's were
designed with bearing clearances (which is the main factor of viscous flow)
based upon the oils of the day, of which 5 weight (cold) was pretty darned
thin around those days (considering the block was around from the bad old
days of the 2.0 liter 4 in the Audi Ur100, we're talking back to the 60's
and 70's) I can't imagine 0 weight (even cold) will put up enough of a film
to support the bearing loads of the engine. I tend to run 10W-30 all year
with the //S6, but then again I hardly run the car in the winter (or at all
these days, she needs a bit of work to get back on the road) so take it
FWIW.
