This morning driving to work I experienced a dragging caliper that caused
serious amounts of smoke. Reached in with screwdriver to let go the
handbrake mech which moved about one eighth of an inch to free pads.
Replaced caliper with remanufactured unit and cable four months ago.
Replaced carrier one week ago. Performed caliper handbrake R&R on Friday.
Parked car for the weekend.
This morning rolled back and down the driveway with no apparent dragging of
the pads. Drove off. About 1km in to drive to work sensed car wasn't pulling
away as smoothly. Pulled in to parking lot to see driver side rear wheel
smoking. Reached under the rear and flicked the handbrake mech which moved
about one eighth of an inch and all is well again.
In all of this I haven't used the handbrake at all.
Help please caused I've exhausted all I know. Next step is to hand off to my
local wrench to investigate and I'm leaning towards a new (non
remanufactured) caliper.
Thanks
Tony
