[s-cars] Query to the List about S6 value

I tried Hagerty a couple years ago. Pretty short conversation. My '93 was
fresh from the body shop and looking 100% but they weren't interested. It
was a daily driver and I don't think that fits their business.

I'm leaning the other way - I might drop collision entirely. I only drive
it once or twice a week and is always garaged. Even last summer the prices
collapsed to where I figured it was realistically worth on about $8500.
Given the current glut of cars and no consumer credit I'd be lucky to find a
cash buyer with $6K for it. So I don't expect to sell. I hope to drive it
another 50K miles and 3 or 4 more years without major work like
clutch/tranny etc. If I get there I'll sell it or part it for whatever it's
worth and be good with it.

I did some rough figuring on collision insurance. My car only exposes the
insurance company to a worst-case risk of about $2500. And that's only if I
total it, and only if it's all my fault. This accounts for residual parts
value in a light hit, the deductible I'd pay, and the money they'll gouge me
on future premiums. Too bad AIG didn't stick to business like that. If I
take a hard hit with it and I bend up all the parts I'll lose the parts
value - but I'll either be dead or have bigger problems to worry about.

By the way - my biggest financial risk is to never wreck the car. How else
can I be sure I'll know when it's over? I don't want to spend good money
after bad at the end, whenever that is.

Having said all this - I'm about to drop about 5 bills to repair a stupid
little rust spot near the rocker with new metal.
