Bob -
I've searched high and low on the replacement front and have a similar
situation for MUCH stupider reasons. That story in a second but basically
there doesn't seem to be a generic version or parts availablitity stateside.
The OEM is some Scando operation called DEFA and although they do lots of
OEM including Merc 190's, and sell lots of variations including aftermarket
alarms/RKE, I haven't found a clever "just order remote XYZ and it's half
the dealer cost" solution. If you knew somebody in Norway (or Sweden for
that matter probably) that wanted to dedicate their life to it you might be
able to track down a parts/repair depot and get a replacement casing (and
get 10 spares while you're at it for me and every other guy with a broken
ring...)

(Actually in digging up the links again, just saw a press story that they
have a factory in Wuxi China which is an hour or two outside Shanghai...
hmmm I bet I could get 5,000 casings for $5 out the back door if I could get
a hold of a Chinese factory worker...)
Also you could see the bottom of a post I put up on AW a couple of months
ago - it includes links to the cheapest web parts dealers I could find for
it.

The sadly idiotic reason I need a housing for perfectly functioning
electronics myself is that my plastic loop was wearing through but not
broken and I decided to "Pre-fix" it. So I did a slick job of making a
metal ring that fit just inside the loop, then mixing some high-spec carbon
filled epoxy to bond it together and fill the hole, then redrilled and
finished so it was now metal & epoxy reinforced tab about 10x stronger than
the factory. Came out great, except the tab was slightly bent from years of
use so I went back and put it under a lamp for a few minutes to soften the
plastic so I could re-align it to be extra-super-ultra-perfect. DOH.
"Soften" became "whole casing softly deformed into useless shape" when I
didn't pay close enough attention (aka walked away for 5 minutes). Proving
again that my stupidity knows no limits.
Anyway, that all related to say that it is very possible to form a nice
little metal ring from small gauge wire and then use filled epoxy to reform
a ring that's better than new, if you're handy with such things. If you
decide to attempt and need tips I can provide some... I even have some pics
of the process (until I went back and farqed it up - thankfully I didn't
document that part of the process).
