[s-cars] Speaking of VIR

PK,
Forgot a couple of things;
At the end of one session the worker in the hot pit had me pull over
to talk. He wanted to tell me that one of the corner workers at the
flag station near the end of the back straight observed "flames
coming from my REAR brakes" while under heavy braking. FLAMES, can
you believe it, out of the farckin rears. One of the other folks in
my run group said she thought she saw that too. I didn't get black
flagged or anything, I guess they see that kinda stuff all the time.
Needless to say my at the time rear pads were gone after the first
day. It's a good thing my bro on law suggested we check the pads as I
had about 1/32 of inch left on the rears , no problem with the
fronts. Swapped them with something beefier between sessions. No mo
flames.
Wish I'd gotten a pic of that.
I probably scared the beejesus out of a vette owner that was behind
me exiting the horseshoe turn at the end of the front straight. Seems
like the gearing of the 5 speed is not suited very well for this
section of track, 2nd gear is a little too high in the rev range and
3rd gear is just under good boost. I'm not very quick out of there,
engine bogs as the boost tries to build, prolly shouldn't give so
much gas but I want the damn thing to get moving. Anyway I think
quite a bit of unburned gas accumulated in the exhaust one lap as a
thunderous back fire blasted this vette once coming out of there.
Nice cloud of black smoke to boot. It's no Aston, but Jimmy Bondie
would be proud.
Car is running better now, although I don't think I've got all the
power I should based on running with my Bro In Law nose to tail in
our run group, but much better than before. Switched from Mihnea's
chip to Uncle Bob's, among a few other things. No Mo coil problems
(knocks on wood).
Oil temps got a bit toward the high end of the gauge on the warmer of
the 2 days, think I might need to get a bigger oil cooler. It's a
good thing the events I attend are during the cooler months.
Checked out your blog... that's awesome, keep 'em coming.
Regards,
-manny
