Thanks Taka.

I think its probably the only M5 that was for sale w/ a rebuilt motor in the US. Found a few that had s38's swapped out but just lower mileage.

Before this M5 I had a C36 AMG w/ an inline 6 that was amazing ! , but in the end not having the manual tranny left me wanting the M5.

And you're spot on about the brakes ! stops on a dime w/ a dollar for change. Supposedly the big upgrade are calipers from the 850i which were rebadged 6 piston Brembo's. Total plug n play into the 5'r.

Funny how that article really hit the nail when describing both cars.

Not sure if I would ever spend the $$$ on the 500E/E500 as good ones are over 15K, and in this economy that will fetch a lot of fun toys....time will tell I guess.

Congrats Mike- that's an awesome garage- an M5 and an S4? Nice. Looks like you really need to get the Benz for sake of completeness. :-)

I've found the E34 M5 to be one of the best driving sports sedans out there- it's got plenty of power, doesn't feel like a huge pig, awesome brakes, just a nice package all around.

That S38 engine sounds totally exotic as well, which is a big plus.

You're lucky to have found one that has had the engine rebuild done- that's a big ticket item no matter the shop.

Taka

So it looks like I'm 2/3rds into owning " Teh Article" !

Remember the Car & Driver issue from 94 where they did a comparo w/ the Audi UrS4/BMW m5/ MBZ 500E ??

I used to daydream about that for yrs.

Picked up a super sweet 91 E34 M5 w/ Turner Motor Sport/Conforti Landshark chip,Euro 3.8 cam sprocket,Bilstein sports on H&R springs,Dinan LW flywheel,HD clutch... and some other goodies. ~ 345hp ( stock is 315)

Lived almost all of its life in Cali The guy I bought it from only drove it in the summer in NH . Never seen a snow flake.
Full engine rebuild in 2005 w/ an invoice for the job that would make anyone's head spin.
10 Freakin' K !!!  Yowza.

The original owner was an oral surgeon....so I guess he could afford it.
Every record of work is included, including car wash reciepts. For the first 140K of miles ,Beverly HIlls BMW worked on this car, and OMFG did they rape this poor bastid after the warranty ran out.

The average RO was about $ 900.

I should be arrested for what I bought this car for. Felonious I tell ya.

Its pouring outside, but nevertheless I took the M5 for a shakedown run in the country.

Looks like I got me a drift car  : )

What a car. Nuff said.

Pics enclosed.
PS- The S4 is Rsd' w/ VEMS and other goodies for about 400hp.
