[s-cars] Hungover by a thread...

Scott,

The wheel has not been quite the same since... had it trued by a local shop
and they asked who beat the hell out of it. :-)

My wife used that very set of wheels on the LT-1Q to track at the Porsche
Club "ladies day" last summer on the highway patrol track on table mesa near
Golden. I kept a paranoid look out for any deer/elk that day.

 Gents

I suspect we could argue ad infinitum which mistress makes our hearts pump
faster, that is a choice we all try to have in life.? Thankfully that
doesn't change what defines a supercar.? In my mind, research and reads, the
very last thing that 'defines' a supercar, is it's looks.? Certainly if
anyone attempts such talk in a room full of supercar *owners*, that offense
defines just not getting it right (JNGR).? Supercar ascription rises to the
top of the glass without ascribing such vanity, like a heretical ice cube in
a fine single malt.

The best I've read in the last few days in context of any supercar is Mark G
"try washing one".? Perfecto!? Not just the curvy body of a 911T, but any
supercar mentioned, including the awkward Diablo, the long beasty hood of
the viper, or the slots in a Pinnyf Testa Rossa.? After a recent stint with
tweeking a 500hp full race 930T, I might add, try putting a car cover on
one.? As I put my handy urq car cover over that GT3 rear wing, supercar art
couldn't describe the vision better.? A few neighbors even stopped by
because something in my driveway was JNR.? Quite the opposite!

Alas, I have had the privilege of driving many supercars, and those rides
are firmly imprinted in my brain for everything they did to my soul.? That
may be the illusion that can only be shared by perspective or ownership,
thankful to have it as perspective so many times in my life.? When I stand
amongst gentleman with my favorite single malt sharing those experiences, I
can't imagine speaking to looks, as I never have.? Are there any Supercars I
find hot to look at?? Absolutely, but that doesn't take away a damn thing
from those I don't.

I don't take much personally on a forum anymore.? I only look to what would
have happened in the context of sharing great stories with fine supercar
owners.? "Ugly" is just out of bounds, plain and simple.?? Especially
standing next to a guy that thought enough of her 'other' attributes to
actually drive one as an owner.?? Equated here well...? "your wife is hot"
might be tolerated, "your wife is ugly" sure wouldn't be, even amongst best
of friends.

WRT deer stories, my fondest....? Ingo, Bob D and myself driving back from
Monterey 99, in the brutally raw and JNeverR LT1Q.? Torsen Boy piloting
route 52 thru the hills of Utah full Walter Rohrl rally style in total
darkness.? At a full triple digit speed a bit sideways cresting a hill onto
a ridgeline = elk!? Locked up Big Reds, down to 95, dodge left-dodge right,
took left, elk went right....? Ran over the hoof with 'only' the right front
tire.? Thought we had a flat, found only a perfect elk hoofprint fully
imbedded into the HTRZII.? Swapped front to rear, and drove home with a
persistent thump emitting from the right rear fender well.? 4 seconds of
luck, and 1200 more miles reminded of it.

Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving all!

Scott J

...

The DBS was beauteous in this regard. Uber performance via an Uber
gentleman.

Tough combo to intertwine - and to be able to do it to those extremes is

impressive. An R8 is nail / head in that regard IMO.

Anywho...

it depends on what your priorities are. the viper isn't about refinement at

all. it is, however, a very fast sports car and that's what it was designed
to

do.

with randy pobst at the wheel, the viper ACR was 5 seconds faster than the
R8 at

laguna seca, at 1:35 vs 1:40. at that level, 5 seconds is a very long time
-

much more than at the 1:55 vs 2:00 level. for comparison purposes, i
watched

historic GTP race cars running at laguna seca a few years ago. the

electramotive nissan GTP, porsche 962, silk cut jaguar, etc. were all there.

they were running about 1:32. to be fair, they were being driven by
gentleman

racers, not pro drivers, but for a street-legal car to be able to come
anywhere

near those cars is amazing.

i have yet to drive a ZR1, but i've driven the Z06 a number of times, and if
the

ZR1 is as much of an improvement over the Z06 as it appears to be on paper,
i'd

take that over an R8 any time.

I tend to look at it from bigger picture than any absolute factor - too much

compromise in cheaper built stuff that's too hard to ignore, 'better'
rawness

can only make up for so much.
