So--
We had a little warm weather today so I thought I would put in a new
thermostat since mine was acting a bit slow getting up to temp these
past few weeks.
Got a new Wahler from Impex and proceeded to drain the system and
install the new thermostat.
Being a wise boy I checked it in boiling water and sure enough it
opened and then cracked close about 87C.
Put if vertical just like the one I put in a number of years back.
Went pretty fast except for the water the came out of the block I had
though I had gotten when I had drained the radiator and the reservoir.
Filled with freash mix and started it up. It pulled down almost all
of the reservoir the first five minutes. After about 10 minutes the
temp gage was not even past the first three marks and then the
coolant wanting icon flashed on. I shut it down. Even though the
reservoir was more then half filled I put in more. Started it up and
as soon as the gage got to the first mark after about 40 seconds the
Icon flashed on.
The hose to the top of the radiator is warm but the radiator is not.
the hose coming off the thermostat housing is warm- not hot. The
after run hoses are warm to the pump and out of the pump.
No matter what I do-- heat on - heat off-- I cannot get past the icon
going on after about 40 seconds.
I never had this problem before in the times I have put in a
thermostat or changed the timing belt.
Never had to break a line to burp air ever.
Could it be that the thermostat is no opening allowing air to get out
of the system?
Any ideas--
It is dark and now I find out from my wife the up stairway hall
lights are out as well as the bath and one bedroom-- all else on the
same circuit work-- no blown breakers.
1938 house-- I can only guess what is in series.
It will be a fun day tomorrow .
