I must have been lucky. I had a 85 GTI bought in 87 with 45k miles and about
240k miles ( in 2005) later no SMS (self machining symptom) tranny. I had
slowly modded it over the years but by the time I had it the way I wanted
mechanically, the body was shot. Plenty of road trips and autocrosses in
that car.
Chris, I thought my Schrick 272 cam had an evil sound at idle. Your 276
must have lump, lump, lumpy. ;-)
