Holy cow, guys! I'm reading this stuff in disbelief. Doesn't
anybody do
PM anymore? What better system to practice it on than brakes?
If you are buying from one of the online sources that sell aftermarket
hoses, you really won't need part numbers. Their catalog listings are
pretty good for this, and if you check the dealer price on these, you
will
understand why I think you will choose aftermarket.
What brake lines should you use? Some that are not more than 4 years
old; i.e., replace every second fluid flush or anytime they show aging.
Do what you comfortably have the time to do now,Jim. But do look at
the condition of the pads and check that the carrier pins let the
caliper
slide easily and boots are good. A shot of hi temp grease in there
wouldn't
hurt, and make sure the e-brake cable cam operates freely.
Use a good quality wrench on the fittings because they are soft and will
round over easily. Take Chris' advice and spray a rust buster on the
fittings first.
A pressure bleeder will sure come in handy after the hose replacement.
It sure makes bleeding the brakes a snap.
