Amen to that!  I struggled with it for the better part of (doh!) 2 hours before realizing that the pump needs to be at the top of the basket up against the release clips for it to come out when you pull back on the clips.  I felt like a total moron afterwards, because it came out so easily once i gently tugged upwards on the plumbing/wires to raise it up.
