Cool. Interesting lab vs anecdotal. The big difference I see is how to  
reliably create a rusted test subject. Anecdotal evidence offered over  
the years on this list has Kroil at the top, followed fairly closely  
by PB Blaster.

How does one apply the acetone-ATF mix onto typically hard-to-reach  
rusted objects of frustration? Some sort of polyethylene squirt  
bottle, most likely. How well will it stay in place long enough to  
penetrate, as typically I've had to apply PB Blaster straight up from  
the astronaut position under the car...

Intriguing, nonetheless, especially given my Scottish frugal roots.
