The Harbor Freight tool is cheap and eliminates the need for almost all improvisation. I've had mine for years, having only had to replace a sheared roll pin in the assembly... An easy and inexpensive fix.

I found that putting a 1 in. wood dowel to it and hitting it with a hammer a
few times made it easier to turn and push.
