A voltage regulator is $35 and 10 minutes to change. If you didn't have other symptoms indicating bad bearings, I'd try the voltage regulator first.

Subject: [s-cars] Alternator or voltage regulator

About a couple of weeks ago I noticed car was a little slow in
cranking to start so I figured I'd go get my battery checked this
week. Tonight I'm driving along and battery icon warning light pops
up. Then on the ic same battery icon but in red starts glowing. I'm
driving at night and headlights & interior lights are slowly dimming
to where I can't see so I pull up in front of an auto service center
where it now sits. The abs also turned itself off While waiting for
ride I googles the voltage regulator replacement on the website. How
do you know if you can get away with just replacing voltage regulator
vs alternator? Anybody got alternator part #?
