Hmmm the meyle control arms look nice the ball joints are nice and
solid. I've also been using BMW ones for awhile what do you not like
about me? How long do you expect control arms to last on our cars?
What and where would you buy them from? Blauparts has a complete kit
left and right with all hardware for 200? They are the HD revision I
believe

A few years ago I used Meyle parts to rebuild the entire front end of our 98
A6. The car had been clunking and groaning from front end component wear.
The Meyle parts lasted all of 1 month before they started clunking as bad or
worse than the OEM 6 _year_old parts.
You read it right - ONE MONTH!!!
I had to do the job all over again in just 30 days.
I wouldn't touch Meyle parts with your 10 ft pole!

I could only dream of a comfortable 100 hr work week these days....
Alas, the Pasqualoni/Maddock uber S6 Avant "ist fuer verkaufen".
Nice to see it's stayed in amazing shape in the hands of the 4th
owner. I really hope #5 will keep up the tradition.
As for me, the S8 is pretty much in permanent hibernation in the
depths underneath my manhattan closet, err, apartment, and der Turbo
ricebrenner is sitting in mothballs in a secret storage facility in
Ypsilanti. I can't imagine how useless a third car would be to me
now.

W124 Benz's are one of the BEST?cars to leave?MBZ.
?
They're 500K cars w/ mild maintenance.
?
The later 300E's or 260E's are the way to go. Just make sure there's proof
of the wiring harness being changed or updated.
?
Check the coolant res while cold to make sure there's no film or white crud
indicative of a HG going.
?
Other than that these cars are the proverbial tanks. Inline 6 that just goes
on forever. Tranny's are pretty damn solid as well and they really drive
sweet.
?
The 1993 W124 500E is on my bucketlist of cars to eventually own. Just need
to find a clean enough one.
?
Good luck.

Aaron,
I can personally attest to their safety - while driving a '92 300TE across
an intersection in NYC years back we got t-boned by taxi traveling ~35 MPH -
it hit right on the passenger-side A pillar. My wife got a concussion and
the car was just caved in - glass gone, RF wheel smashed, suspension all
cattywhompus - but I DROVE IT HOME 50 miles to CT that night. The car was
ultimately repaired and lasted many more years. Amazing.
Comfortable, solid, & reliable. The 4-matic was unstoppable in the snow,
though I did find it diabolically complicated. Do a thorough rust and
electrics inspection; buy one, and sleep at night. I've still got the
Bentley book if you're interested.
Phil
