Agreed... any motorized training is good... snowmobiles, dirtbikes, go-karts, golf carts, quads, even small powerboats. They each give you a respect for motorized capabilities and an awareness that each one is unique.
Again... I'll sit in the passenger seat with a great driver in a crappy car long before sitting in a great car with a crappy driver, thank you very much.

Sending kids off to a winter driving school is great addition to 1:1
training. I've seen some 16 year old folk at "Bridgestone Winter driving
school" get some valuable time in a safe environment prior to heading into
the Colorado mountain passes.
Once they have some experience bring them to Gruppe-Q so that they can crash
their/mum/dad's Audi into a snowbank with the best of us. ;-)
My 12 year old son just started the mandatory "Driving the pickup in a
field" training a couple of weeks back. Been getting some snowmobile
"exercise" in also, quite remarkable what a sled can teach you about
watching the surface and tracking other moving objects.

Sorry... but I have to admit being humored when this topic comes up... as
it regularly does. "What is the safest tank I can put my kid in?"
At the end of the day, I think this is still the wrong question. The real
question should be how to adequately train the young driver. Prevent the
accident rather than planning for its eventuality.
