The last German boots I saw were about $15 each and climbing.  That  
probably
accounts for some of the coil price increase also.  I don't think you  
want to go to
the genuine Audi parts for these since they list for $59.50/ea.  They  
are $35.70 at
genuinevwaudiparts.com - still a hefty increase for the real thing.

I just ohm them looking for the spec 5K and move on.  I have not had  
any issues
with them on a 1+ chipped car over a 3 year period, but I keep spares  
handy.

Oil filters are a different story.  You may not discover substandard  
quality until it
does it's damage.  What are you going to see;  a bad check valve may  
leave
the pressure light on at start, but if it cheap media or it bypasses  
quickly you
wouldn't know for many thousands of miles?  Mann and Bosch have been
chasing cheap labor for filters for many years in Spain, Bosnia, and  
others.
If I buy the genuine filters in quantity, the savings is pretty small.
